Exclusive Interview with
Anika Smit

Could you share the story and meaning behind the name SYMPHINITIE?
SYMPHINITIE is a fusion of the words symphony and infinity. It embodies natures endless rhythm, that continuous dance between growth and fading, unity and variation, which we study, understand, and preserve through our specialized printing methods. Nature offers a rich and ever evolving composition, and through our original creations, we translate its emotional depth into something that resonates with everyone.
We start with flowers, as they hold a cross cultural, almost instinctual attraction. Be it the memory of a garden or the fragrance of a specific bloom, our creations, which remain faithful to natures palette, shape, and proportion, awaken a profound and personal connection. In our fast paced modern world, there is a universal yearning to rediscover a bond with the natural environment, and SYMPHINITIE strives to be that essential bridge.

How does SYMPHINITIE’s family foundation influence its direction?
This project represents a genuine partnership between my mother Anèl and myself. As a family run enterprise, we invest our passion into developing products with deeper meaning, items that resonate strongly with those who acquire them.
This family oriented devotion forms the heart of our practice: a shared pursuit of quality, creative direction, and the thoughtful integration of nature’s beauty into contemporary, lasting goods.

What can you tell us about your distinctive approach to preserving nature in textiles?
Our technical process forms the core of our workshop, a valued expertise refined through persistent experimentation, passion, and meticulous attention. While we maintain certain confidential aspects, I can reveal that every original piece is made exclusively with genuine plant materials, much of which we cultivate ourselves. This close relationship with our resources brings lyrical quality and authenticity to finished works.
From these originals, we implement advanced, sustainable printing technology to replicate natural hues and patterns with maximum accuracy. This represents a deliberate, respectful craft, one that honors the environment while enabling us to broadly share its beauty through fabric.

What meaning does the « tie » in SYMPHINITIE hold?
The tie represents the joining of two fundamental principles: creating in an ecologically responsible manner, while achieving extraordinary visual appeal and creativity.
It concerns uniting ethical practice with artistic merit, crafting pieces that not only enhance contemporary living but accomplish this in a conscientious way.

What future aspirations and plans are you pursuing?
We maintain a strongly present oriented approach, remaining flexible and aware in a complex global context. Temporary retail spaces and carefully arranged exhibitions enable us to present our vision through direct, personalized experiences. We additionally seek cooperation with partners who prioritize social, economic, and ecological consciousness.
Progress through innovation motivates our development. The relationship between technological advancement and handmade artistry captivates us, and we remain committed to ongoing learning. We certainly consider ourselves visionaries, the natural world encourages this perspective. We anticipate broadening our scope within fashion and home goods, incorporating cherished botanical memories into exclusive collections that honor the environment.

What impressions did you take away from the Shenzhen SIUF?
The experience brought us tremendous satisfaction. We greatly appreciated the SIUF organizers commitment to delivering a superior, imaginative, and participatory event, from the fashion presentations to the well considered professional gatherings. The dynamic interaction between coordinators, participants, and attendees proved extraordinary.
We felt privileged to display our creations at the Airs de Paris space and to engage with inspiring industry pioneers who openly shared their perspectives. Most significantly, the professional relationships we established during SIUF have developed into productive collaborations. Despite the geographical separation between France and China, these bonds have matured into genuine friendships, and from meaningful friendships emerge thoughtful and original joint endeavors.

SYMPHINITIE continues to transform nature’s passing moments into enduring elegance, demonstrating that when artistic practice and environmental awareness converge, remarkable outcomes follow.
