Founded in 2000 by Bernard Debray, the Association Carrefour France Sichuan (ACFS) is celebrating a quarter of a century of cultural exchange and friendship this year.
Over the past 25 years, the association has built strong and lasting connections between France and Sichuan, going far beyond stereotypes and first impressions.
Within Paris’s vibrant cultural and community landscape, some cultural initiatives achieve a rare and precious longevity. ACFS is one of the finest examples. Far more than simply an association, it has established itself as a genuine meeting point for cultural exchange.
Its original mission, championed by its founder, remains more relevant than ever: to introduce the richness of Sichuan to audiences in France and to share the distinctiveness of French culture in China, while exploring with insight the cultural, historical, philosophical and tourism-related dimensions that connect the two countries.

The Spirit of ACFS
Under the leadership of President Michel Panet, and thanks to the unwavering commitment of its board—Luc Delebecque, Martine Fumey and Françoise Frérot—ACFS has developed a programme that is both eclectic and intellectually demanding, turning curiosity into genuine opportunities for exchange and shared discovery.
Each lecture and dinner debate offers the chance to meet and engage with experts, writers, diplomats and highly knowledgeable specialists.

This remarkable intellectual agility allows the association to move effortlessly from contemporary geopolitics to the subtlety of classical poetry, from the sweeping history of emperors to the analysis of technological innovation.
Members have explored the Silk Roads, delved into the wisdom of Taoism, immersed themselves in the masterpieces of Chinese cinema and debated major environmental challenges. This diversity reflects a resolutely modern and nuanced approach to China, free from stereotypes.

The true strength of ACFS and the heart of its appeal and longevity, lies in its unique social and cultural spirit. Here, the concepts of intercultural exchange and conviviality take on their full meaning. The association operates like a warm and welcoming club where lasting friendships and professional networks are built.
Evenings naturally continue over a drink after an engaging lecture. The atmosphere is welcoming and open to everyone, whether they are seasoned China specialists or simply curious about Asia. This rare combination of high-quality content and genuine human connection defines the DNA of ACFS and has made it a much-valued meeting place in Paris.

Looking to the Future
ACFS has ambitious plans for 2026. It aims to strengthen its role as an active interface between France and Sichuan by welcoming official and business delegations from Sichuan, expanding its collaborations with partner networks such as the Fédération des Associations Franco-Chinoises (FAFC), and increasing the number of events that encourage genuine and enriching interaction between French and Chinese communities.
As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, ACFS is not simply looking back on its achievements with pride. It is reaffirming, with energy and conviction, its mission for the decades ahead: to remain a vibrant, intellectually engaging and welcoming crossroads where mutual understanding and genuine friendship between France and China can continue to flourish, day after day.
