A place of rare beauty and witness to a remarkable history, the Hôtel de Pourtalès occupies a special place in the world of Parisian hotels.
During Paris Fashion Week, Airs de Paris set up shop at the Hôtel de Pourtalès for a unique experience in the Paris skyline…
Hôtel de Pourtalès
a unique experience
The Hôtel de Pourtalès is located in the heart of the Madeleine district, in a central yet confidential and family-friendly setting.
The Hôtel de Pourtalès was built in the 19th century. It was commissioned by the Count of Pourtalès, James-Alexandre de Pourtalès (1776-1855).
Born into a family of Protestant bankers of French origin who had settled in Switzerland, the Count of Pourtalès, who was first a banker and then a diplomat, moved to Paris in 1815.
A keen collector, it was in Paris that he found a home for his works of art. In 1838, he commissioned Felix Duban, the famous architect at the École des Beaux-Arts, to build the building that was to become the Pourtalès town house.
Designed in a neo-renaissance style, a 19th century style that borrows from the architectural codes of the Renaissance, the Hôtel de Pourtalès with its arcades, pilasters and inner courtyard was conceived as a perfect evocation of the Tuscan palazzo… and became a landmark building.
The poet and novelist Théophile Gautier described the hotel as an “objet d’art”. In 2002, the entire building was listed as a Historic Monument.
The Hôtel de Pourtalès is above all the fruit of a skilful alchemy. A fruit that celebrates the classical world as much as the contemporary and avant-garde, and allows us to admire extraordinary spaces.
Outside first, with an inner courtyard that could have been nicknamed “The Stopover of Time”. This listed area is the gateway to a world cut off from the hustle and bustle of the capital.
Then there’s the interior, with its nine exceptional flats, all designed as living, unique spaces whose layout reflects a single watchword: Parisian elegance.
Akrame Benallal’s restaurant is in the courtyard. The chef belongs to a generation of chefs who combine modernity, creativity and finesse in their culinary approaches.
His restaurant is in the select circle of Michelin-starred restaurants, and is the subject of a partnership with the Hôtel du Pourtalès.
Beyond the splendour of its surroundings, the Hôtel de Pourtalès is aimed at customers who want more than just a top-of-the-range hotel experience.
From the outset, the Hôtel de Pourtalès has made the family values of welcome, care and protection the very heart of its identity.
Its concierge service is one of the most efficient in the capital. The Hôtel de Pourtalès elevates the notion of service to the highest level, turning the wildest desires into reality…
