UJOH: The Elegance of Disobedience

This season, the Japanese fashion house UJOH explores the idea of antithesis , not as a rupture, but as a dialogue with its own foundations.

Balancing sharpened minimalism, grunge energy, and refined craftsmanship, the collection redefines the silhouette through a subtle tension between discipline and disorder.

Rethinking Its Own Codes

At UJOH, antithesis becomes a creative method. The brand revisits its lines, volumes, and established codes in order to transform them. The house’s DNA remains intact, yet it emerges with renewed intensity.

Contours appear sharper and more deliberate, while volumes gain a new sense of freedom. This season, UJOH’s signature minimalism is infused with a touch of insolence, fueled by grunge energy and a rock spirit inherited from the 1990s. Between controlled elegance and intentional disruption, the silhouette finds a new balance.

Material as a Manifesto

True to its artisanal philosophy, UJOH places material at the center of the creative process. Some fabrics in the collection are woven on a Schönherr machine from the 1960s, installed in Japan, operating at a pace five times slower than modern looms.

This slower rhythm restores time to the fabric itself, revealing unexpected nylons, translucent textures, and surfaces rich in character. In an era of accelerated production, this approach stands as a quiet manifesto: slowing down to restore value to material.

Silhouettes in Tension

The collection thrives on contrast. Faux suede and faux fur appear on an aviator jacket, while lace emerges in unexpected places. Sharp zippers cut across garments, slicing through lines and opening up bold, sometimes fractured silhouettes.

Here, elegance is shaped through friction ,  a dialogue between opposing elements that destabilize and redefine the garment.

A Deep Color Story

The palette deepens with shades of black, chocolate, and rosewood forming the collection’s foundation. Fern green and a mysterious “dark fig” bring subtle disruption, while “sharkskin” tones , white and beige, introduce a luminous counterpoint.

Checks, meanwhile, flirt openly with a grunge aesthetic, reinforcing the 1990s influence that runs throughout the collection.

A Runway as a Wardrobe

Even the show presentation breaks from convention. Rather than following a traditional narrative sequence, the pieces appear in a free order , like a wardrobe to explore rather than a story to follow.

This staging mirrors the spirit of the collection itself: a refusal of rigid structures in favor of a more intuitive experience of clothing.

A Creative Encounter

At the heart of the season lies a creative collaboration. UJOH designed stage costumes for the Japanese duo Dreams Come True for their tour. The techniques and craftsmanship developed through this partnership directly inform parts of the collection, with several pieces emerging from this shared creative process.

UJOH 8

For UJOH, antithesis becomes more than a concept — it becomes an attitude. A form of conscious elegance: knowing exactly what you are doing, and deliberately choosing to do the opposite.
