Imane Ayissi : A new experience

The essence of Imane Ayissi’s work is the renewed joy of bringing cultures together. The theme of her new Spring-Summer 2022 Couture Collection is FOUFOULLOU.

Foufoullou means both mixed and together in the Ewondo language of Cameroon. This season, Imane brings two worlds together: that of the «slogan» garment and that of the party.

Faced with the great challenges of our time, those concerning the ecology or the current pandemic, it is urgent that we unite to imagine, together, new ways of living and to define new common goods.

Imane mixes techniques and materials: the precious work of African artisans, the excellence of French and Italian suppliers with silk or lace, the authenticity of ecological materials such as bamboo fiber, and hand embroidery or applied raffia…

A first time…

Curious and daring, Imane is also the first designer to use a new type of raw material:Ecobamboo fiber, during the Paris Fashion Week.

Two dresses for this collection summer 2022, were created and manufactured in his workshop, with fabrics based on bamboo.

The colors, white and black, symbolize the harmony of Ying and Yang which are two forces in nature.

A new experience

It is a new collaborative experience for the 3 partners: Imane Ayissi, the magazine Airs de Paris and Bamboo Union, finally to build an ecosystem for sustainable fashion.

The Ecobamboo fiber fabric is a new technological breakthrough achieved by Hebei Jigao Bamboo.

In order to protect the environment, the whole production process, from the bamboo forest to the fiber, is ecologically adapted. The production is certified by OEKO-TEX Step, which guarantees quality, respect for the environment and fair working conditions.

A great reward

Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres is one of France’s most prestigious honorary decorations.

At the end of the fashion show, Pascal Morand, Executive President of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, presented the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award to Imane. “Imane has been a model, a boxer, a dancer and now a couturier… In fashion, he has explored the body and the soul. And from this last career, he has created many marvels”, said Mr Morand.

In tears, Imane expressed her gratitude: “Couture hasn’t always been easy, but thanks to the help of so many generous people, we’ve managed to create our own idea of couture”.
